Consultation / Observation
CTL offers faculty-to-faculty consultations of all kinds, and we’re here to support your instructional practices. Whether you’re refining the syllabus for a new course, tuning up an assignment for the era of generative AI, or requesting a classroom peer observation and a formal letter, the CTL is here to support YOU! Some colleges require a peer observation of teaching as part of the review process. However, even if peer observation is not required, consider requesting a consultation / observation
Faculty-to-faculty observations of teaching can be a useful way to get support, connect with colleagues, and improve skills.Faculty-to-faculty observations of teaching can be a useful way to get support, connect with colleagues, and improve skills. They can also provide more helpful feedback on pedagogical effectiveness than student end-of-semester surveys. All assistant professors are encouraged to get an observation at least once per year.
Resources for faculty who wish to be observed:
- Ask your department chair or school director, or faculty mentor, to recommend a colleague, and make the ask. Feel free to share resources on this site in your ask.
- If you can't locate someone in your home department or school, request a peer observation from an SDSU faculty member serving on our CTL Advisory Board.
- Review our Consultation / Observation Request for more information.
