Many instructors think of assessments as an endpoint, where students show what they have learned (past tense). But formative assessments can not only provide information about whether your students are actually learning what you hope they will learn, but the assessments themselves can often improve student learning and encourage critical thinking. In this interactive workshop, we will explore strategies for helping students use formative assessments to reflect and deepen their own learning, without dramatically increasing grading for the instructor.
