Many instructors think of assessments as an endpoint, where students show what they
have learned (past tense). But formative assessments can not only provide information
about whether your students are actually learning what you hope they will learn, but
the assessments themselves can often improve student learning and encourage critical
thinking. In this interactive workshop, we will explore strategies for helping students
use formative assessments to reflect and deepen their own learning, without dramatically
increasing grading for the instructor.
Attendees will be able to…
- Differentiate between formative and summative assessment
- Articulate the benefits of doing formative assessment
- Identify opportunities for formative assessments over the course of the semester
This event is part of the CTL series New Faculty Seminars.
* Graduate students are welcome to attend all CTL events, space permitting. If an event fills up, GTAs will be moved to the waitlist in the order in which they registered.
