CTL Conversation
Wednesday, April 29
AH1112
noon-1pm

While good etiquette might suggest avoiding discussion of politics or religion at cocktail parties, there are many classes where diving into controversial subjects is a key part of the learning experience. How can instructors create an environment in which all students feel comfortable discussing these topics? How can we deal with potential racism, sexism, homophobia, or other negative attitudes? In this Conversation, we will explore what has or hasn’t worked for others. Conversation leaders Walter Penrose (History) and Rebecca Moore (Religious Studies) will share some of their approaches for facilitating discussions of difficult topics, and then the floor will be open for everyone to discuss and ask questions. Please come join the conversation!

CTL Conversations are open forums where participants can share ideas, ask questions, and get feedback on teaching issues. Each Conversation will begin with comments from a few invited guests but all attendees are encouraged to come with their own tips, questions and thoughts to share.
