student-centered assessment II:Summative assessment

"In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a
test that teaches you a lesson." (Tom Bodett) Many instructors think of assessments
as an endpoint, where students show what they have learned (past tense). In this interactive
workshop, we will explore how assessment can instead be part of the learning process.
We will discuss how to create relevant, learner-centered assessment tasks. Participants
will work on modifying their own assignments to be more authentic and transparent.
We will also review strategies for helping students use the assessment process to
reflect and deepen their own learning. Participants are encouraged to bring an assignment
that they want to work on modifying.
